Welcome to Mrs. Z-B's fourth grade class!
This happens to be my 31st year teaching at CHC!  Wow!  Where has the time gone?  To start I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.  I have lived in Canfield almost all my life.  My parents moved here when I was six months old after they purchased a farm on Route 46, just past the fairgrounds.  I attended Canfield Schools from kindergarten through high school.
Upon graduating I enrolled as a business student at Youngstown State University.  After changing my major four times, I decided to follow my passion, and  become a teacher.  I immediately found employment at C.H. Campbell, and I have been here ever since.   After my first year of teaching, I began my Master's Degree at YSU in Educational Administration, and finished  shortly after.
I am one of seven children; I have two brothers, and four sisters....needless to say growing up at the Zarlenga house was a little crazy!  All of my siblings graduated from Canfield High School, and continued their education attending various colleges and universities.  One of my sisters is a doctor, one brother a lawyer, one an instructor at Slippery Rock University, and the other three have varied degrees and masters degrees in different areas of study.  Education was an integral part of my family life, and I continue to take further coursework and classes to keep current with the the latest developments in education.
I credit my wonderful parents, Martha and Carmine, for all my successes in life, and  instilling in me a work ethic that has served me well.

I have a wonderful husband, James, and two great kids; Leo, 36, and Gillian, 26, a 2020 graduate of The Ohio State University, who is currently obtaining her master's degree a t The Ohio State University In addition, I have two step children, Melissa, 38, and Emily, 36.  I also have a four year old grandson, Kobe, and a one year old grandson, Isaac. And not to be left out, my two babies Scout and Tressel.  Scout is our little Yorkie, and Tressel our Yorkie/Bijon-Frise.  I love my ethnicity being half Italian and half Irish.  In my spare time, I love spending time with my family and dogs, running and working out, reading, cooking, and going to the beach.  Finally, I am an avid OSU, YSU and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Homework :  Check you child's planner daily for a list of assignments. In addition, students can access my Google Classroom through their email for daily assignments and announcements.

Social Studies:  We will soon be learning about September 11th, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights with special attention on the First Amendment . In addition, we will learning some geography skills and the location of Ohio as well as its role in the United States.

Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to fourth grade!  I am excited to have all of these fabulous fourth graders in class this year.  I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer.  In fourth grade, there is much to be learned, but remember, we will have a lot of fun doing so!
Students, over the course of this year you will be studying Ohio's role in our nation's history, several topics in Science including the Scientific Method, Weather, Earth Changes, and Matter.  The majority of instruction will focus on Math, Reading and Language Arts.  We will keep you organized, but you must play your part in being a responsible student.  This year will also be filled with new found friendships, experiences, and discoveries.  Keep an open mind, ask questions, and be willing to work cooperatively with everyone in our classroom.  I promise I will make your last year at C.H. Campbell a memorable one!

                            Love,
                        Mrs. Zarlenga-Buist

Mathematics
Learning Targets:  Students will be assessed regularly  on their knowledge and fluency of the basic facts in the four basic operations
of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
We are deep into Unit 1 in Bridges Math  in Bridges Math which focuses on Multiplication and Division Strategies and Multi-Step Probem-Solving.
*Please continue to practice basic  math facts  of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.   Many students will find it very difficult to move on to more rigorous instruction without the knowledge of these basic facts, so remember, "Practice makes permanent."
I will again be  assessing the students in each operation with a timed tests,  so  look for these assessments coming home.  Please work on these very essential math facts;  it is imperative that students know these quickly and accurately.
